Top Questions

With more than 14 years in the air purifier business we’ve assembled some of the most common questions to help you better understand HEPA air purifiers.

How do HEPA air purifiers work?

HEPA air purifiers use mechanical filtration to capture particulates such as dust, pollen and smoke from the air. Over time the efficiency of a HEPA air purifier will improve. From a safety and performance aspect HEPA air purifiers are the best choice. To see how HEPA air purifiers compare to Ionic (filterless) air purifiers see

Where should I locate my HEPA air purifier?

The HEPA air purifier should be located in an area where you spend most of your time. In many cases this will be a bedroom or general living area. In an apartment setting our Erik model is strong enough to clean more than one room. Be sure to place the air purifier in a place where the air intake can not become blocked by items such as curtains.

What fan speed should I run the air purifier on?

We suggest running your HEPA air purifier on the highest fan speed that is acceptable to you from a noise level stand point. The more air you move the cleaner your room will be however you will want to balance the air flow with the noise level. All HEPA air purifiers produce a white noise. The Oransi HEPA air purifiers are very quiet on the low fan speeds. Some people are OK with the noise on the highest fan speeds while others find it a little too loud. If you are using the air purifier in a bedroom you most likely will want to run the air purifier on a lower to middle fan speed.

How quickly will the HEPA air purifier clean my air?

In testing, the Oransi HEPA air purifiers can show a significant improvement in 15 minutes and interestingly we have tested the air quality when the air purifier is turned off the particulate levels can quickly increase. If sized properly the HEPA air purifier will clean the air in your room four times per hour. It really depends on the size of the room and the air flow of the HEPA air purifier. There are many factors that can influence the performance including whether there is significant air being exchanged from an adjoining room.

All of our HEPA air purifiers can remove smoke however to also remove the smoke odor requires a carbon filter. We suggest either the Max HEPA air purifier or the Erik Multi-Carbon. Later in 2016 we will introduce the EJ HEPA air purifier to the US market. We have developed a proprietary carbon material for the EJ HEPA air purifier that is very effective for the removal of smoke as well as very difficult to remove gases like formaldehyde. Why does the HEPA air purifier not operate when the cover is removed?

For your safety we have a safety switch on each of our HEPA air purifiers that cuts off power to the air purifier when the cover is removed as a safety measure. This will ensure that you or your children will not be able to come into contact with the motor/fan assembly during operation. Also as an added measure the cover has to be installed correctly for power to be restored to the air purifier.

Are the HEPA air purifiers safe?

Yes, Oransi HEPA air purifiers adhere to the strictest safety standards in manufacturing and use the highest quality components. In addition, we do not use any components that could potentially introduce a pollutant into your environment such as ozone. All HEPA air purifiers are certified safe and we proudly sell them around the world including some of the most polluted environments.

Will bacteria and viruses be released into the room when the HEPA air purifier is not running?

No, our HEPA filters use two properties to trap and hold bacteria and viruses: mechanical filtration and charged fibers. Once the bacteria and viruses have been trapped they will not be released back into your environment.

Can we use an Oransi air purifier from the US (120V/60Hz) in China?

No, we do not sell the 120V HEPA air purifiers in China. They are not safety tested for China and do not have any warranty or after sales service support in China. To use these products will require the use of a power transformer. We sell 220V HEPA air purifiers in China and suggest you visit:
